Silvia MacAllister

Psychotherapist, LMFT

I trained, researched, worked and consulted at United Airlines, the San Francisco County Jails, Haight-Ashbury Free Clinics, UCSF, A Home Within, and several Bay Area high schools. Additionally, I’ve been practicing psychotherapy since 2003 in my private practice. I offer about 20 years of experience in the magical and transformative world of psychotherapy and self-development.

Life and Executive Coach

I help people from different walks of life to prepare a vision, for themselves or their business. My clients include

C- level executives from start-ups, or Fortune 500 companies, founders, tech geniuses and creatives in the Bay Area, and I consult with organizations, and provide training.

Couples Therapist

Specializing in high-conflict couples, I have worked with hundreds of partners to overcome conflicts and emotional pain.  I trained with John and Julie Gottman (pioneers in-science based couples therapy), and my style is as well inspired by Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT), helping couples to re-connect and re-discover newfound respect and love.

Trauma Therapist

As a Trauma Psychotherapist, I integrate traditional (talk) psychotherapy and mindfulness-based mind/body therapy. I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing).

Divorce Mediator

With a certificate in Conflict Resolution and Divorce Mediation, I know a few things about the art of negotiation, which I am happy to share with my clients. It's my passion to help individuals, couples, families, and businesses settle and negotiate disputes creatively and successfully. As well, I offer co-parenting mediation.

Independent Investigator

I have assisted research in the area of Personality Disorders (Narcissism and Borderline PD) for the Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V), and I am about to work with the American Psychiatric Association, on a Quality Measure Development Initiative for mental health practitioners.

Bilingual & Cross-Cultural
As a German native and immigrant who has lived in the Bay Area for more than 20 years, I have a deep understanding and compassion for the unique challenges faced by members of an ex-pat community as well as by those living in multicultural relationships. I provide sessions in English and German.

Additionally

I see clients in my downtown San Francisco office, visit organizations and I can connect virtually across the globe.

During my free time I practice meditation and yoga, run, ski, adore and paint palm trees.

I look forward to hearing from you, be it via e-mail or phone.

Information about my Practice

Fees
Please email, text or call me to discuss my current hourly fee/coaching package pricing.

I offer a 20-minute consultation free of charge – by phone or in my office.

Payments

I accept personal checks, credit cards, FSA cards, or cash at the time of service.

I have a 48 Hours Cancellation Policy. Please be advised that appointments can be canceled by email at least 48 hours in advance. I am happy to reschedule your appointment for another time, if available within the week. In case of late cancellations, you will be responsible for the full session fee.

Health Insurance

My services are reimbursable for out-of-network benefits from most plans. As an out-of-network provider, I can provide you with a monthly bill for reimbursement by your insurance, a so-called superbill.

Here are some questions to ask your carrier:

  • Do you have mental health benefits? How much of the session is covered?

  • What is your deductible and has it been met?

  • How many sessions per the calendar year does your plan cover?

  • Is approval required by your primary care physician?

Employer’s Flex Spending Plan

You may be able to apply pre-tax dollars to therapy costs or claim the therapy costs as a tax deduction
